There once lived a scholar（学者）called Dong Guo，who was a very kind-hearted man.
One day，as he was walking alone in the hills with his donkey and a bag of books，a wolf suddenly came running up to him
"Kind-hearted master，save me，"it said in a frightened voice.
"The hunters are after me and they want to kill me.Please hide me in your bag.If you will save me，I will remember your kindness for ever，"
Seeing how frightened it was，Dong Guo took pity on the beast.He quickly took out the books and pushed the wolf into the bag.Then he continued on his way with his donkey and the bag.
Soon a group of hunters came.Seeing no wolf，they went away in a huny.
After a while，the wolf said，"Let me out，master."So the scholar let it out，it showed its ugly long teeth and said，"I am terribly hungry，and will die if I do not have something to eat at once.You have saved me once，kindhearted man，If you really want to save me，let me eat you now，"With these words，it jumped on to the scholar.
Dong Guo was shocked（震惊的）.He hid himself behind the donkey，doing the best he could to defend himself.Meanwhile he scolded
（训斥）the wolf for"heartless and ungrateful（忘恩负义的）.
Just then a farmer came by.The scholar called out to the farmer to save him.Holding the farmer by the hand，Dong Guo told the whole story.
"Now，should the wolf eat me after all I have done for him？"He asked angrily.But the wolf said："He put me in his bag and I could hardly breathe in there.He really wanted to kill me.Why should I not eat him up？"So the arguement（争吵）went on.
"But look here，"said the farmer，"I could hardly believe this bag is big enough to hold a wolf.I must see it with my own eyes."
To prove this，the wolf got into bag.He quickly tied up the bag as before.With a mighty（用力地）swing（甩）of his hoe the farmer killed the wolf.
Dong Guo thanked the farmer again and again.But farmer said.
"Now you should know what to do with the enemy of man."

One day，the five fingers had a terrible quarrel.The Thumb（拇指）said first，"I'm the eldest.People often hold me up in approval（赞同）and say'Thumbs up'（呱呱叫）.And when doing something，I'm on oneside while you four on the other side..Aren't I the greatest？"
The Index Finger refused to obey and argued，"People always stretch（伸展）me out to point to things.And they often use me to taste food.It's clear that I'm the most useful one."
The middle finger said proudly，"I'm the longest and thickest，and I stand in the middle.It's only I who am worthy of being the greatest."
The Ring Finger answered back sarcastically（批评地），"If I were not the most important，why Don't you wear the gold ring and only I do？"
Just then，a mosquito（蚊子）flew into the ear.The Little Finger challenged（挑战），"What use is it boasting？Which is the greatest，just let him scratch inside the ear to drive it out.
The five fingers were engaged in（忙于）a heated arguement.The Ear said，"All of you are very capable（有能力的）.But who can hold a pen independly（独立地）and write out"I am the greatest'？"
The five fingers tried one after another.But all of them did a hard but unsuccessful job.
Finally，the Ear ask them to work together to write"We are the greatest."This time，they succeeded.From this the five fingers learned a good lesson.

Once an Arab was travelling on his camel.When the sun started to go down，he stopped and set up his tent.Then he made a fire，ate his meal and lay down to sleep Suddenly a wind began to blow.It became colder and colder.The camel put his head inside the tent."Master，could you let me put my head in the tent？It's so cold outside."
The Arab was a kind man."Why，yes，"he said，"Put your head in and get warm.
Then he went back to sleep.But before long，the camel woke him up."My head is quite warm now，but my neck is cold.Could I bring it inside，too？""All right，"the Arab said.And the camel put his neck in.
There wasn't much room in the tent now, as the camel had a long neck.
Again the Arab went back to sleep, butagain the camel woke him up. "Master, I really must ask you to move over a bit. I' ve warmed my head and neck, but I'd like to bring my front legs inside and warm them up, too."The Arab moved over. He had to sit up now, for there wasn't enough room for him to lie down and sleep.
"What next?"he wondered, just then the camel said: "This tent is really too small for both of us. Besides, my other two legs are still out in the cold. Why Don't you go out and leave the tent to me?"
And with that, the camel kicked the poor man out.
Give a greedy person an inch and he will take a foot.

A wolf once saw some sheep eating grass at the foot of a hill.The wolf was hungry and wanted very much to catch one and eat it.But hecould not go among the sheep，because there was a man with them.The man was a shepherd.He was looking after his sheep.Then the wolf had an idea.He put on a sheep's skin and went in among the sheep.He killed a lot of them.Of course the shepherd did not know the wolf was among his sheep，because his enemy was in a sheep's skin.
Every day the wolf ate one or two of the sheep. The shepherd was worried. "Who is killing my sheep?"he wondered. "I' ll catch him andhang him."But still, more sheep were killed. Now more than ten were dead. The shepherd became very angry. He walked about among the sheep day and night and watched carefully. One day he saw that one of his sheep did not eat grass and did not walk like the others.
"That's not a sheep", he thought. He came up close to it and looked at it carefully. He saw it was really a wolf in a sheep's skin! "Tliat's the enemy. He's killed my sheep,"the shepherd said to himself. Then he took a rope and walked quietly near the wolf. Suddenly he threw the rope around the wolf's neck. Then he pulled the wolf to a tree neaiby and hanged him. At that time two other shepherds were passing the place. They were very surprised when they saw a sheep hanging from a tree. But after they heard the story, they said, "You' ve done the right thing. A wolf in a sheep's skin is our most dangerous enemy.

A long time ago there lived a very rich and powerful king.All the people in his country were afraid of him.But was he happy？No，he was always ill and unhappy.His money and his power（权力）could not help him.Hie doctors in his country could not help him either.
One day two famous doctors from another country came to see him.
"If you can cure me and make me happy，"said the king，"I will give you half of my gold."
The first doctor examined him.He found nothing wrong
"Oh，King，you are a very healthy man，"said the doctor."You only think you are ill and that makes you unhappy.
The king was very angry when he heard this.He told his soldiers to cut off the doctor's head.
The second doctor knew he had to be care-ful."Oh，King，you will be well if you find a happy man and wear his shoes，"he said.Ther king asked hundreds of people if they were happy and they all said they were sometimes happy and sometimes sad.
One day, they found a poor man who was almost always happy. When they asked for his shoes, however, he had only one worn shoe.
Some time later, the king met a beggar with a full smile who said that he was always happy.
"Give me your shoes quickly,"said the king, "And I will make you a very rich man."
"HaHa...."The beggar laughed. "I'm sorry."he answered. "I've never had any shoe! "

One day a wolf met a fox."Let us think of a way to catch a rabbit."After a while，The wolf said，“I have an idea.We can catch him and eat him tonight. You go home and get into bed, and Ill got to the rabbit and tell him that you are dead. Then he will come near you to see if you are dead or not, and you will jump up and catch him."
"Tliat's a good idea,"said the fox, "1' ll do that."
The wolf went to the rabbit's house. He knocked at the door and said, "Mr rabbit!"

When the fox heard this, he thought, "I' Il show him that I am dead."
The fox opened his mouth, and the rabbit saw that the fox was not dead. He ran away at once.

Once upon a time there lived a poor peasant.He was too old to work.One day，he was standing on the road，cold and hungry.Suddenly a stranger appeared before him，carrying a beautiful white goose.
"Take care of my goose，"said the stranger，"And my goose will take care of you."
The peasant took the goose home and gave her water to drink and food.When the goose had finished her supper，the old man made her a nest of warm sweet hay to sleep in.The next morning when the peasant woke up，his first concern（关心）wasthe goose.To his surprise，he found in the nest a beautiful golden egg newly laid.He picked it up and hurried off to the nearest market and sold it for a great sum of money.
The next morning the same thing happened，and the next，and the next.With the eggs he got every day，the peasant was able to buy beautiful clothes and build a new house.But he grew hard and greedy.He wished to have all the eggs inside the goose at once instead of receiving seven a week.So he cruelly killed the goose.But there was not a single egg inside the white body！
Just then the stranger appeared again.He picked up the dead goose and carried it away.He did not say anything but he looked at the peasant reproachfully（责备地）.Soon the greedy peasant became as poor as before，for never again was he able to have the beautiful golden eggs.

Long long ago，there was an old lion who was ill in his den（兽穴）.All the animals came to visit him，but none of them could do anything for him and every day he grew weaker and weaker.
"Have you noticed，my lord lion，"said the wolf one day，"that the fox has not been here to see you？You can tell he doesn't care at all for you.However he flatters（阿谀，奉承）you when you are well and strong."
The fox happened to pass by at that moment and overheard what the wolf said.He came back at once and said，"I'm afraid，sir，that the wolf does not understand things well.I care more about you than anyone else.While he has been chattering（喋喋不休）at your side，I've been rushing many places trying to find a cure（疗法）for you，I'm quite tired out.
"Have you found anything？"asked the lion eagerly.
"Yes，indeed I found a good old doctor.He says you must wrap（裏）yourself in a newly killed wolf skin.That's the only thing that will make you better."，Before the wolf knew what was happening，the lion had sprung up and killed him for his warm skin.
Aha！"laughed the fox."You won't stir up（搅起）trouble again，Mr Wolf."
Troublemakers make trouble for themselves.

Once upon a time a big，fat frog lived in a tiny shallow pond（池塘）.He knew every plant and stone in it，and he could swim across it easily.He was the biggest creature in it，and he was very important.When he croaked（呱呱叫），the water snails（蜗牛）listened politely，and the water beeties（甲虫）always swam behind him.He was very happy there.
One day，while he was catching flies，a pretty dragon-fly（蜻蜓）passed by."You're a very fine frog，"she sang，"but why don't you livein a bigger pond？Come to my pond.Youll find a lot of frogs there.You'll meet lovely water-tilies（莲花）.Life in a large pond is wonderful！"
Perhaps it is rather dull（单调）here，"thought the foolish frog.So he hopped after the dragon-fly.
But he didn't like the big，deep pond，full of strange plants.The water snails were rude to him，and he was afraid of the ducks.The fish didn't like him，and he was the smallest frog there.He was lonely and unhappy.
He sat on a water-lily leaf and croaked sadly to himself."I don't like it here.I think I'll go home tomorrow."
But a hungry heron（白鸾）flew down and swallowed（吞咽）him up for supper.
